Dear friends of N2 Details,
When I opened N2 Details here in Sterling back in 2015, I simply wanted to take exquisite care of a few cars, one at a time, in a way that was safe for you, your car, and the environment. I never imagined that more than eleven years later, I would be writing a farewell love letter to this little detailing studio and to all of you who trusted me with your vehicles.
From the very beginning, N2 Details was built around the idea that the smallest details make the biggest difference. Every swirl removed, every carefully cleaned stitch of leather, every protected finish was my way of saying “I see you, and I care about what you care about.” You weren’t just dropping off a car; you were sharing a piece of your daily life, your weekend memories, and your pride and joy.
It has been one of the great privileges of my life to work so closely with your vehicles. I’ve watched family cars carry home new babies, seen long-loved classics brought back to their former glory, and helped daily commuters feel just a little more special on the drive to work. In every case, my goal was the same: to restore, preserve, and protect at the highest level I possibly could.
Over the years, N2 Details has remained intentionally small, just me, working out of my garage here in Sterling Virginia, taking on one vehicle at a time so I could give each of them my undivided attention. That slower, more deliberate pace has allowed me to stay present with the work, to really see the transformation from “before” to “after,” and to end each day with that wonderful sense of completion that first drew me into detailing in the first place.
Now, it’s time for a new chapter, one that still lets me work with my hands, care for living things, and nurture beauty, just in a different medium.
In the last few years I’ve fallen completely in love with gardening. What started as a personal hobby has grown into a true calling, and I’ve begun formal Master Gardener training through Virginia Tech.
From January through March of this year, I traded polishing pads for textbooks, learning everything I could about soils, plants, and sustainable gardening. Now I’m serving as an intern, completing volunteer hours in the community, answering questions, helping in public spaces and garden centers, and sharing research-based gardening knowledge with anyone who’s curious.
To my surprise (and delight), this work fills my soul in the same way that detailing always has. There is something deeply satisfying about gently tending a plant, watching it respond to care and attention, and seeing a landscape slowly come to life. It feels like the next natural evolution of the same heart that has always been “into the details,” just with more dirt under my fingernails and a lot more green.
So, with a full heart, I’m announcing that I’ll be retiring from professional auto detailing and transitioning into my new life as a Master Gardener.
I’ve already begun sharing this news with my regulars, and if we’ve been working together, I’ll be in touch with you directly about timing and any recommendations I can make to help you find your next trusted detailer.
Emotionally, it means saying goodbye to a craft and a community that have shaped me in ways I could never have predicted. Detailing has given me lifelong friendships, unforgettable experiences, and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship.
Thank you for every early-morning drop-off, every kind review, every referral to a neighbor, and every conversation in the driveway. Thank you for trusting me with your vehicles, for believing in a small, woman-owned business in Sterling, and for allowing me to build a life and a career out of something I love.
From the bottom of my heart: thank you for being part of this journey. Detailing will always be one of my great loves, and I carry those years, and your kindness, into this next season.
With gratitude and a few happy tears, Diana
